Macarons and Modern Family Lead to College Life Nostalgia

It's Friday night, and I'm sitting at home on my couch with my mother watching Modern Family, eating macarons, and sipping peppermint tea. And all I can think about is how my post grad weekends compared to my college weekends are laughable. Seriously, it's like an article straight from Buzzfeed with lots of Bridesmaids GIFs. No seriously, here it is.While I love Modern Family and pastries and tea, I miss going out! These post grad woes are bubbling up and spilling over mainly due to my Instagram feed tonight. Heavily filtered pictures of my friends at a birthday party. Slightly blurred images, beer bottles in the bottom hand corners, and the sorority girl pose (boobs out and hand on your hip!). I miss my friends. I miss living .5 seconds away from all my favorite people. I miss Trivia night on Wednesdays and Margaritas on Thursday. I miss those God awful Frat Houses that always smelled like puke. I miss having a life.

Is this post grad depression? I think it is. Some days it's not so bad. I like my jobs (kinda), and I don't mind living at home (for now), but I majorly dislike not having any friends in this hobunk town. It takes me over an hour to get to any of my friends, and even longer for the ones I like the most. Post grad life is not all it's cracked up to be. If you want to stop reading now, I don't blame you. After all, there is not going to be any silver lining to this post. It's really just your old fashioned pity party. But I'll tell you this, if you are still in college, live it up. Those 4 years (or more) go by really quickly, and once you're out, there's going to be those times where you'll give anything (well, not anything) to go back.

So tonight, I'm probably just going to upload this picture to Instagram with a heavily blurred filter and act like I'm having the time of my life.

Wise Words

I'm a bit of a quote junkie, so I thought I would share one of my favorites with y'all. I'll admit, I always kind of wished this is how someone would describe me if given the chance :) Oh well, one can dream...

The Fault In Our Stars Official Trailer

I follow John Green, the author of The Fault in Our Stars and Looking for Alaska, on Twitter, and this morning he tweeted that the official trailer for The Fault in Our Stars was premiering today on the Today Show. I missed it this morning, but once I got off work, I headed on over to YouTube to watch it.

So, what do you think? I wonder if it will be as good as the book, even though movies are rarely as good as the books they are based off of. At least in my opinion :) I think the actor who plays Augustus, Ansel Elgort, is adorable, but when I read the book I always pictured a girl like Emma Watson playing Hazel. I'm sure Shailene Woodley will do a good job though. From The Secret Life of an American Teenager to The Fault in Our Stars. I would say she's come a long way!

Favorite Hair Care Products

Living Proof No Frizz Shampoo & Conditioner// here and here

Alterna Caviar Repair RX Instant Recovery Shampoo & Conditioner// here and here

Aquage Silkening Oil Treatment// sold at salons or here

Batiste Hint of Color Dry Shampoo// here

I've always wished I had the type of hair that $5.99 shampoo and conditioner from the drug store could handle, but sadly that is not the case. I have dry, wavy/curly color treated hair that has a tendency to frizz or fall flat at the hint of moisture. Bottom line: it can be a major pain. It's taken me years, and I do mean years to find products that leave my hair soft, shiny, HEALTHY, and frizz free. I've tried drug store, salon products, beauty guru favorites, the no shampoo method...I feel like I've tried everything. So when my mom stole my Living Proof sample that I received from Sephora and raved about it, I knew it couldn't hurt to give it a try. Needless to say, it was a keeper.

My stroke of good luck with hair products kind of had a domino effect after that. Around that time, I started going to a new stylist at a new salon. After my blowout, she used the Aquage Silkening Oil Treatment on my hair. It made my hair silky without feeling gummy. I was sold. When I first started going to my stylist, she mentioned that my hair felt dry and had a lot of dead ends, but now after using Living Proof products, and switching them out with my Alterna products, she now comments on how healthy my hair is. No split ends and no brittleness!

I'm not going to lie, Alterna and Living Proof are pricey products, and overwashing your hair is actually damaging (go figure). So I try to only wash my hair twice a week, and yes I still bathe everyday haha. In order to skip out on washing my hair everyday, I used my Batiste dry shampoo when I need it. It soaks up oil, gives me volume, and makes my hair smell fresh.

So these are the products that work for me, and I am so glad I finally found them! What are your favorite hair care products?

I've kissed a lot of frogs, so where's my prince?

So another girl I went to school with is engaged. I saw it on Facebook yesterday, and another little piece of me died on the inside. Okay, so that's really dramatic and not all that accurate, but it did bum me out a little bit. She's three years younger than me, my brother's age, so in my eyes, she's practically a baby!

Since graduating, I've already been invited to three weddings, all girls that were in my class. I'm happy for them. I really am! But as the wedding invitations stack up, I can't help but wonder when and if it will ever be my turn. Growing up, I vowed to never get married. Boys were icky and relationships were messy. When I was little, I never played house, I hated dolls, and if you bought me a Ken doll or any of the Barbie children, I would throw them in the bottom of my toy chest and never touch them. To be honest, I haven't changed much from that Ken hating child. Boys can still be icky, and relationships can still be messy. I'm still unsure on if I ever want to get married, or if marriage is even cut out for me. Several guys have come and gone, but I've never even had a serious boyfriend! After a particular bad date or another failed relationship, I find myself asking myself "what's wrong with me?"

And the answer is nothing. Nothing is wrong with me.

I'm just single. It's not a death sentence nor does it mean I need to go ahead and subscribe to Modern Cat magazine. I don't even like cats! Being single doesn't define me, like being married doesn't define a person. It's just your relationship status. That's it. I'm not single because I'm too picky. I'm not single because I'm too tall. I'm not single because I live at home with my mom. I'm not single because I wear makeup to the grocery store. I'm not single because I'm not a huge fan of nature. I'm not single because I'm too quiet. I'm not single because I'm a horrible driver. I'm not single because I wouldn't sleep with that guy after the fifth date. I'm not single because I kissed that guy when I was drunk at the bar.

I'm not single for all of the bs reasons people like to throw at me. I'm single because I haven't found my person yet. I haven't found the guy who thinks the sun is shining out of my ass even when I'm having a horrible day. I haven't found the man that will make me want to become a better woman. We haven't found each other yet. It's as simple as that.

And I'm not going to look for him. What is it that people say? You always find things when you stop searching for them? So until that time comes, I'm single, and I'm okay with that.

Favorite Youtubers

I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to fashion and beauty. Pretty much the only type of nerd I've ever really been. I study it, I practice it, I just love it. I can't help it :) Every day, or at least almost everyday, I watch my favorite YouTube beauty gurus, and seriously they have taught me so much about makeup, hair care, and skincare! So I thought I would give a shout out to some of my favorite girls.

ilikeweylie// She was the first beauty guru I ever watched on YouTube back in the day. First and foremost, I love her personality. She's hilarious and such a sweetheart! She's grown from just doing tutorials, to vlogs, diy, and advice videos. She's great!

fashionablyjamie & reviewsbyjamie// I've also been watching Jamie for awhile as well. Recently, her reviews channel has exploded, and I think she's been focusing more on that one. She's so honest in her reviews but never cruel. She also does a "fitting room review" which is unique to her channel.

JaclynHill// I'm very new to her videos, but she has quickly become one of my favorites! Jaclyn is a fabulous makeup artist! I love all her tutorials and her skincare videos. She seriously makes me want to go out and buy everything she mentions. Her videos are so informative, and she's so easy to watch. I can't say enough good things about her channel.

MakeupbyAlli// I love watching this girl the most for her eye makeup tutorials and favorites videos. My coloring is very similar to her's, so I find that almost all of her tutorials work perfectly for me. Alli uses a lot of neutrals, but her looks are never boring and are usually coupled with a pop of color on the lip. She's so pretty and has tons of flawless looks on her channel! Oh, and I'm totally in love with her fashion sense...so stylish!

SMLx0// I love Steph! I love watching her for full face looks, hair tutorials, and monthly favorites. Her tutorials are so easy to follow, and she works with a lot of neutrals so she's a girl after my own heart. Her hair tutorials are some of my favorites. If you are into big, bouncy, sexy hair, then she's your girl. Also, her bloopers at the end of her videos never fail to give me a good laugh.

ThatGirlShaeXo// And last but certainly not least is Shae. I've been watching her for a very long time, and I love her so much. She's so crazy and fun, not to mention a phenomonal makeup artist. She's not afraid of color, and I love that so much about her. Anytime I'm feeling adventurous or bold I use one of her eye makeup tutorials. I watch her the most for tutorials, reviews, and her empties videos. Her reviews are so honest, and she's not afraid to tell it like it is. Shae is so talented yet so down to earth...the perfect combination!

So if you ever have the time or desire to watch any beauty videos on YouTube, I would definitely check out these lovely ladies!
